I only vaguely remember running on the spot, waving my little 7 year old arms wildly, demonstrating my determination in climbing that imaginary giant beanstalk. It's only now that I realise maybe the audience wasn't actually laughing WITH me.
I felt like a celebrity in the playground!
A little later in my school career, I remember the most beautiful mermaid's tail being designed by Mama for the end of year concert. I was to be perched on the edge of the stage and following on from my earlier theatrical success, I was again waving my arms. I didn't last long up there. I believe I fainted. And possibly bounced.
Luckily, this fall didn't completely curb my enthusiasm for school productions, although it did take a fair bit of convincing on my sister's part to get me involved again.
Throughout the different experiences, the friendships and camaraderie that was discovered in kindred spirits, I developed my love for musicals and stage shows. Even all these years later, I still get a nostalgic heart palpitation when passing a high school billboard announcing this year's show, or riding past a flyer advertising a local production.
With this back story, I bring you:
Pledge #3 : Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog: Live Musical!
Pineapple-Shaped Lamps is a theatre company made up of film and theatre students. Not only are they adorable (see video above) but it appears from their strategically placed merchandise that we share a passion for Joss Whedon's work.
I was bemused to be their first pledge and wondered how long it would take the Whedonverse to discover this project and get it fully funded.
Today, I have an answer. It took a day. One day! How AMAZING is this community?
I can only imagine the fun and excitement this theatre company are going to have in planning this show and putting it all together. I'm already a little jealous. But more so, I am incredibly proud to have been a part of their project.
Break a leg, Pineapple-Shaped Lamps!
[Question: Does anyone really say "break a leg" any more?!]
NOTE: While Pledge #3 is fully funded (yay!) may I direct you to the other projects still looking for support.
Pledge #2 : Ivan and Alyosha
Pledge #1 : Charity:Water
Hello! I'm a member of PSL, and I just wanted to thank you so much for donating- and being our first donation! We were worried about reaching our $500 goal in the given two months, so imagine our surprise when we got there not even 24 hours after we posted our Kickstarter. It's people like you, who donate to groups they've never even met, that helped make that possible. Thank you for your kindness and what you're doing for the starving artists all over Kickstarter!
ReplyDeleteDear bellanz,
ReplyDeleteI'm Jake, the VicePresident of PSL, and I cannot express enough my (and everyone else's) gratitude toward you and everyone else who has made this possible!
Words can express our excitement for this show.
We've been doing Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow casts for a year now and our live sketch comedy show, Thursday Night Live for 4 months. But this is without a doubt our biggest under taking yet, and we want it to be great!
Again, thank you so much!
And if you want, you can check out all of our webz:

Thanks again!

PS
As a theatre major, I can confirm, people still do use the phrase 'break a leg', but more often people have started using the term 'break legs'
This was new to me.
You are both too lovely! Thank you for stopping by to comment and thank you for promoting my blog to all your fans.
ReplyDeleteWhen I started this project I was excited by the prospect of finding amazingly creative people with heart and the determination to make their dreams come true. Supporting that in any small way is an honour.
I am really thrilled for your theatre group and hope that all your future projects are doubly successful! Or tripley! That's a bad made-up word.
Now go break some legs. [That REALLY doesn't feel right to say, you guys!]

Dear Sweet, Precious, Bellanz...thank you so much for talking about us on your blog! It's really awesome to see that someone appreciates our work! PLEASE come see us if you're in Wilmington in April! It would be awesome to say hi.
ReplyDeleteYou are wonderful.
--Ryan P. C. Trimble (AKA the guy in the yellow shirt in the video)
Dear guy in the yellow shirt in the video AKA Ryan AKA SWEETHEART!
ReplyDeleteI confess I had to google where Wilmington was, I apologize for that. Alas, while I would love to be there opening night, mouthing along to the songs, Australia is a bit far. There's, like, oceans and stuff between us, dude.
I will, however, be in New York City for a week in October [SEEING A BROADWAY SHOW!! I'm sorry, I get all sorts of excited when I remember] so if you guys happen to be around at the same time we could bump into each other and say "hey, stranger" and then I can show you my TICKETS TO A BROADWAY SHOW and you can scoff at me and roll your eyes and tell me how much better your shows are and how awesome Dr. Horrible was.
And then I will nod and sigh and say, "I know". And I'll be all bummed out but then we'll spontaneously break into song and make everything better.
I think that's a pretty decent summary of what's to come?
Seriously though, thank you for your sweet comment!
You are my new favourite.
Bella Xx
That sounds like an awesome summary. And legit, thank you so much for helping to fund our show. We've been doing shows for exactly one year now, but this is our FIRST LIVE MUSICAL. Except for some sketches in our sketch show (Thursday Night Live)...but those don't count, I guess. XD It's maddeningly exciting to see how far we've come, and I hope this is only the beginning. It'd suck if this was our high point forever. BUT THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU, we know it won't be!
ReplyDeleteWe can possibly try to get you some video footage of the show? Maybe? Question mark?
At any rate, have fun with all the kangaroos and boomerangs and Nicole Kidman and Kath & Kim down in Australia.
*really random references*
--Ryan P. C. Trimble (who is now wearing a grey shirt)
Dear Favourite Ryan who has a selection of coloured shirts!
ReplyDeleteI literally LOL'd at your references. It's like you're in my backyard or something. But I checked and there was no one with a yellow or grey shirt hanging around. My downstair's neighbour was throwing out a lot of gin bottles however and we had an awkward moment when our eyes met.
It's ok, I don't blame you for that.
I love that you are maddeningly excited!! That is an awesome energy to have for any musical, let one as brilliant as Dr. Horrible.
Be warned: I was once maddeningly excited and got kicked out of the dressing room. Sadly, that's a true story.
I see we are now twitter stalkers so I shall live vicariously through your updates.
Stay awesome!
